Following several similar alerts in late winter and early spring, the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health has issued another overdose advisory for the Saskatoon region.
The alert comes as the Saskatoon Fire Department has responded to 84 suspected overdoses since August 17.
The Ministry warns that dangerous drugs are in the area, with one substance testing positive for carfentanyl on August 20th. Many cases have required multiple doses of naloxone.
The dangerous substance in question looks like blue and green crystals in one case, but it is unknown what it is being sold as.
This alert will remain in effect until September 4th.
In respone to the alert, the Saskatchewan NDP is calling on the Province to take immediate action.
The Opposition is urging Minister for Mental Health and Addictions, Lori Carr, to commit to a slate of measures, including declaring a state of emergency, implementing a real-time drug alert systems and transparent overdose data, and releasing every public dollar spent on addiction services.
