Just over a week out from the 45th Annual Terry Fox Run taking place, and Saskatoon is well on the way to reaching its fundraising goal.
Media Coordinator Anthony Wood says the Saskatoon Run has raised $39,000 as of Thursday, and the overall goal is $80,000.
“We are well on the way to exceeding last year’s numbers which were around $47,000 as of the run day.”
This year, for the milestone anniversary, the Terry Fox Foundation partnered with The Tragically Hip to release a special version of their song “Courage” as a limited-edition vinyl. Kirsten Fox, Terry’s eldest niece, says the record dropped on Wednesday, and as of Thursday, all 3000 records are sold out.
“It was a really great collaboration with The Tragically Hip, and quite a natural fit. Obviously, they lost Gord Downie to cancer and just an iconic Canadian band.”
At $30 a piece, all proceeds from the records will go directly to cancer research.
“We all know somebody that’s been diagnosed with cancer, whether that’s ourselves, somebody that we love, somebody that’s going to treatment, or somebody that we’ve lost, and research, finding better treatments, that’s going to be the answer to prolong life, to save more lives. We still do the same thing that Terry wanted us to do 45 years ago.”
You can still donate or register to walk in Saskatoon’s Terry Fox Run which takes place on September 14th at the Delta Bessborough Garden.at run dot terry fox dot ca.
