Many great experiences and achievments have sprouted from the Meewasin Valley in 2025.
Donation Specialist with Meewasin, Nikki Moggey, says one of the Valley’s biggest triumphs was the success of this year’s Grazing Dinners.
“The Grazing Dinner was selected this year as the Globe and Mail’s number one pick for summer exploration in the Hidden Canada 2025 Top Ten List.”
The experience includes a trip out to Beaver Creek for a hike, a live sheep grazing demonstration, and an outdoor three-course dinner. Moggey says there are only a few of these dinners left in the season, and tickets are available through Eventbrite.
“It truly is something that you can’t experience anywhere else. The weather we’ve been having has just been phenomenal. We had northern lights on Friday after the experience. Our sunsets are something people talk about, and its just beautiful out at Beaver Creek.”
A number of trail enhancements were also completed this year, including improvements to the sections in Friendship Park, Kiwanis Memorial Park and the trail connection under the University Bridge. Work was also completed on the Kiwanis Memorial Park Promenade.
Looking ahead, the folks at Meewasin are planning big for 2026. Moggey says the team is really excited about the potential designation of a National Urban Park.
“This is because, if selected, we’ll be able to do even more to protect the river valley and the conservational areas surrounding it. Thiss would make it easier for people to access nature, to enjoy recreational activities, and it will also help us with reconciliiation with First Nations and Metis people.”
The team started seeking public engagement on the topic in July, and residents have until September 12 to fill out the online survey.
Meewasin and its partners will continue to manage the park if the area becomes designated as a national urban park, as they do now. As well, Meewasin says that partnering with Parks Canada would bring new investments to the valley, with the park remaining free and open to everyone.
