The Saskatchewan government is going to place 35 temporary modular homes within the communities of Creighton and Denare Beach which were hit hard by wildfires this summer. More than 200 homes burned in Denare Beach.
The decision was made after consultation between municipal leaders from the Village of Denare Beach, the Town of Creighton and the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency’s Recovery Task Team (RTT).
The plan is intended to meet the temporary housing needs of displaced residents over the winter months. The units will be available beginning in October.
In a news release Creighton Mayor Bruce Fidler said, “It is very important to us to support temporary housing for displaced individuals and families as they work to rebuild and recover.”
Denare Beach Mayor Carl Lentowicz said, “Working together to assist residents in returning to their permanent homes remains a top priority.”
As of 1:30 p.m. Friday there are 30 active wildfires in Saskatchewan and two of them remain not contained.
