Conexus Credit Union recently conducted a survey asking members about their fall savings priorities.
The survey found that 34 per cent of respondents had travel and vacations as one of their top money saving priorities.
Adam Thome, Conexus Vice President of Member Experience says that vacations being a top priority are fitting for the time of year.
“Travel and vacations being a top priority stood out, but I would also say that it did for good reason. We’re heading into the winter season, we live in a colder climate, people tend to look forward to going away somewhere warm.”
Along with travel and vacations, home improvements and renovations was another popular saving priority.
Thome adds that age plays a large factor in how people choose to save their money.
“A lot of it comes down to life stage. When you think of things like purchasing a home, that’s something that’s typically done in an earlier life stage and that’s what we’re we seeing in the survey results. Saving to purchase a home, typically higher in that youngest age group.”
Thome says that conducting the survey allows them to see what the people of Saskatchewan prioritize when it comes to saving.
“Really that’s our focus. We’re a local financial institution. We only serve within the Saskatchewan borders. It’s important to us when we do primary research like this that we limit it to Saskatchewan residents. We try to get a good representation of the population here, so whether we try to collect respondants from the north, south, our major centres and across all demographics. So that’s really the focus for us.”
The survey was conducted between July 22nd and 25th. 805 people responded.
