Another overdose alert, this time Saskatoon, after the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health issued an overdose alert earlier in the day Wednesday for Regina.
The Ministry says the Saskatoon Fire Department is reporting a sharp increase in overdoses in Saskatoon. There have been 104 overdoses in the last ten days with numerous cases requiring multiple doses of naloxone which were not always effective. Several patients have also required some form of resuscitation and hospital intervention. In addition, two fatalities were reported on Monday.
The Ministry says dangerous drugs are in the area which contain opioids and other unknown substances and in addition they don’t know what these drugs look like nor what it is being sold as.
It is the same situation in the Queen City after Regina Fire and Protective Services responded to a high number of suspected overdoses with reports of unconsciousness and cardiac arrest on Tuesday.
Some of the cases they responded to required multiple doses of naloxone as well as emergency medical responses such as hospital intervention.
In Regina it is also unknown what the overdose substance looks like, but the Ministry says it may have been sold as Methamphetamine.
The overdose alert will remain in effect in both cities until November 26th.
