The Saskatchewan Health Authority says there has been a measles exposure risk at the Comfort Inn & Suites on Carlton Trail in North Battleford. There has been one confirmed case and anyone who was in the breakfast area between 5:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. from December 15th to 18th should monitor themselves for measles symptoms up to 21 days after the potential exposure.
Measles symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, fatigue, irritability, small, white spots inside the mouth and throat, and a red blotchy rash, which develops on the face and spreads down the body about three to seven days after symptoms begin. The rash can last four to seven days.
The SHA says measles is highly contagious and can spread very easily to others through the air plus the measles virus can live up to two hours in the air or on surfaces in a space where a person coughed or sneezed.
Someone with measles is contagious from four days before a rash appears until four days after a rash develops. Health officials advise anyone who exhibits any of the symptoms and were in the identified location, to call HealthLine 811. They also remind Saskatchewan residents measles is preventable by vaccination.
