The Saskatoon Police Service has issued its own news release regarding the death of a patient Friday morning at RUH after an incident with security guards.
Saskatoon Police say in coordination with the Chief Coroner’s Office, they are investigating the death at Royal University Hospital.
Police were called shortly after 7:00 a.m. on January 9th and say their investigation indicates hospital security officers entered a patient’s room after it was reported a firearm was seen inside.
They say when security tried to restrain the man a physical altercation took place and during that interaction the man became unresponsive. He was later pronounced deceased.
Police say a search of the room located an imitation firearm along with methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
