While an atmospheric river is again providing record rainfall in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan are seeing high temperature records fall. Eleven new temperature records were set in Alberta Monday.
The hotspot in Saskatchewan Monday was Maple Creek when the mercury reached 12 degrees Celsius. That actually wasn’t a record for Maple Creek, but 12 other communities in the province set new record daytime highs for January 12th.
The majority of the temperature records date back to the mid-eighties and nineties, but La Ronge broke a 98-year-old record with a new daytime high of 7.3 degrees. That beat out the old record of 5.6 set in 1928. Records in the area have been kept since 1923.
