Over 500 vehicles were checked by teams with the Saskatchewan RCMP Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS) in central and northern Saskatchewan as part of a proactive traffic safety initiative between January 16th and 18th spanning from Melfort to La Ronge and their surrounding areas.
Prince Albert CTSS checked approximately 80 vehicles and conducted approximately 80 Mandatory Alcohol Screening tests where they issued 10 roadside license suspensions. They charged four drivers under the Criminal Code for alcohol or drug related impaired driving. Sixteen vehicles and an ATV were impounded as well, 71 tickets and 111 warnings were issued.
Around the same time 430 vehicles were checked by the RCMP Saskatoon and Maidstone CTSS in the Lloydminster, Maidstone, Onion Lake, Turtleford, Cut Knife, and Battlefords detachment areas. One person was charged under the Criminal Code for alcohol-related impaired driving. There were 31 roadside license suspensions after determining drivers had recently consumed alcohol or drugs. In addition, officers issued 302 tickets and 311 warnings.
