2026 marks the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion.
To mark the occasion, the Legion’s National Spokesperson Nujma Bond says they are making memberships more accessible than ever.
“One of our biggest announcements happened just recently. That is that we are offering our memberships free this year to anyone who would like to join the Legion and become part of the mission.”
Bond says that the free memberships are meant to help grow the organization even further.
“The hope is that these new members will stay on, they’ll offer their volunteerism and their fresh ideas. We really hope that that’s going to be a great way to spark the next century of activity for the Legion.”
As for Legion events in Saskatoon, Bond says the branches will commemorate the anniversary, but nothing has been announced yet.
“We know from branches across the country that some of them are planning special events like dinners or gala celebrations. I think it’s just a matter of staying tuned and they will announce when they’re ready what they’re going to be up to.”
The official 100th anniversary of the Legion is on July 17th, with the main event being held in Ottawa and smaller events held throughout the country.
