Dig your bike out! The City of Saskatoon is once again hosting Winter BYXE Week.
Nathalie Baudais, Transportation Engineering Manager, says the annual event aims to encourage residents to get active, protect the environment, and join the biking community.
“You just get a different view of your community when you’re riding your bike rather than hiding in your car. You just feel closer to the people around you, and that can give you a bit of a social boost.”
She says Saskatoon has been taking part in the event for the last ten years.
“A lot of people don’t see cycling in the winter as something they want to try, but I encourage you to try it. It’s fun and it gets your exercise in.”
This winter, there are several slow rolls planned, a photo contest, as well as a scavenger hunt. Thursday is also bike to work day. Cyclists are invited to stop by one of several snack and beverage stations that will be set up along main corridors for a break and a bite to eat.
