A man responsible for a bit of a crime spree in Sandy Bay has been arrested.
A Saskatchewan RCMP news release said members of the Sandy Bay detachment found 25-year-old Edwin Ballantyne hiding in a residence in Sandy Bay and arrested him without incident. Between February 16 and 21, police in the town received three reports from the same business – two of thefts and one of a robbery – plus a break-in at a community facility. The resulting investigation led to multiple warrants being issued for Ballantyne’s arrest on charges of robbery with weapon; three counts theft under five thousand dollars; two counts wear a disguise with intent to commit an offence; uttering threats; break and enter with intent and theft from mail under five thousand dollars. Ballantyne was also arrested on 2025 warrants from the Sandy Bay RCMP for assault and failing to comply with probation. He was remanded into custody with his next scheduled appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court being on Wednesday.
