The Saskatoon Police Department was called to an apartment building in Brighton Circle on Friday after someone tried to cook a cardboard box…well not really.

Today at 3:42 pm, crews arrived at the 4300 Block of Brighton Circle to see fire and smoked exiting a three-story apartment building. Four Pumpers, two Aerial Ladders, one Rescue Truck and a Battalion Chief responded to the call.

After entering the suite, firefighters say they encountered smoke and found a cardboard box on top of the stove. The sprinkler system was activated, which contained the fire to the kitchen area.

The fire has since been completely extinguished, and a search confirmed all occupants safely evacuated.

A fire investigator is now on scene to conduct an examination to identify the cause, origin and damage estimate.
