Regina Police are warning the public about a recent scam circulating in the community that saw a Regina victim defrauded of nearly $5,000.
Police say the scam involves telephone conversations with different people claiming to be from various organizations, including the Regina Police Service. The victim says they received an initial call from someone who claimed they were with Canda Post and they were holding a package belonging to the victim.
The caller then offered to connect the victim with CSIS and the Regina Police to further confirm the details. The victim received two calls from people claiming to be from these agencies. Following the calls, the victim was instructed to deposit cash into a bitcoin machine in the south end of Regina.
The caller then asked the victim to complete the same task a second time. At this time, the victim became suspicious and reported the occurrence to police.
