Oil Kings Knot Series With Blades, Thanks to Power Play

The Saskatoon Blades got what they came to Edmonton for, and they were close to getting the bonus!

Unfortunately for the Bridge City Bunch, Ethan MacKenzie’s power play goal with 3:06 remaining in the first overtime period gave the Oil Kings a 4-3 victory, evening the best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarter-final at a win apiece. Special teams were the difference in the Sunday matinee as Edmonton was three-for-six on the man advantage while the Blue and Gold failed to connect on five power play opportunities. That included a chance earlier in the O-T. Game 1 winning goal scorer. Hayden Harsanyi tallied twice for the Blades while David Lewandowski forced extra time, scoring with two minutes remaining in the third period. Lewandowski added two assists while defenceman Tristen Doyle chipped in a pair of helpers. The series appeared to be knotted before overtime when the Oil Kings scored twice in a 1:23 span to break a 1-1 tie with just over five minutes remaining in regulation time. However, Harsanyi’s second of the game and Lewandowski’s tally, coming 64 seconds apart, shocked many in the crowd of 5,173 at Rogers Place, before they were made happy again by MacKenzie’s overtime, power play heroics. The result means the series will return to Edmonton for a Game 5 on Good Friday evening. Before that, Games 3 and 4 will be played Tuesday and Wednesday at SaskTel Centre with first face off both nights being 7 o’clock.
