The province says it’s training more doctors to reinforce Saskatchewan’s health care team.
The government is spending $4.3 million to add 20 new medical school seats at the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Medicine, and $1.75 million for 10 new residency positions, both part of a broader $31.1 million increase for program expansion.
Following these investments, total first-year medical seats will rise to 128, with 12 in Regina and
8 in Saskatoon. Also, 10 new residency positions support family medicine and specialty programs, including a new plastic surgery residency program.
Doctors will also be getting higher incentives, with up to $200,000 provided for rural/remote practices, and up to $100,000 for regional communities.
