SGI’s June Traffic Safety Spotlight is reminding people to slow down when passing emergency and service vehicles with flashing lights.
The current speed limit is 60km/h when passing the vehicles on the highway. The expectation applies to both single lane and double lane highways.
Drivers who exceed the speed limit can recieve a fine. There is a base fine of $170, with an addtional $4 added on for every kilometer over 60 kilometers. The fines are capped at 30 kilometers over the limit.
In 2024, 124 collisions took place due to people failing to slow down. The collisions led to 22 injuires and 1 fatality.
