A 67-year-old woman has been charged following the death of a young child.

On May 10, Rosthern RCMP responded to a report of a child in medical distress at a home on Beardy’s and Okemasis Cree Nation. EMS attended and declared the child, who was under the age of 12, dead at the scene.

RCMP have since determined that the child’s death was suspicious in nature, and a woman was subsequently charged with manslaughter, criminal negligence causing death, child abandonment, and failure to provide the necessities of life.

The woman made her first appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Thursday. She is scheduled to make her next appearance in court in Rosthern on June 17.
