Environment Canada says on Sunday severe thunderstorms developed in eastern Saskatchewan with a tornado confirmed near Pelly at 6:10 p.m. The national weather agency says it received multiple reports through social media and storm reports of the tornado.
A possible tornado was sited near Stornoway earlier in the day at 2:17 p.m. In this case Environment Canada says there is insufficient evidence to confirm a tornado however in both instances Environment Canada is collaborating with the Northern Tornadoes Project as they investigate further.
In addition, there was quarter sized hail reported near Burgis Beach, which is southwest of Canora, around 4:00 p.m. Golf ball sized hailed was reported near North Portal at the U.S. border in the southeast, around 5:00 p.m. Sunday.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Janelle Gergely says Regina received the most rain, between 80 and 100 millimetres, which also caused some overland flooding on Saturday. Saskatoon received 67 millimetres collectively.
And it’s not over yet. Looking ahead, central and north-eastern Saskatchewan could receive rainfall north of 25 millimetres over the course of Monday and Tuesday.
