Saskatchewan residents are fed up with the growing amount of debt the province is facing.

According to an Insightrix poll released by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, 87 per cent of Saskatchewanians are concerned about how much the government increased the provincial debt in the last ten years.

A release from the CTF says provincial debt was about $10.1 billion in 2017, and by the end of 2026, it will reach $26.8 billion, which is more than $21,000 per Saskatchewanian.

The poll indicates that 47 per cent of Sask. residents are very concerned with these numbers, 40 per cent are somewhat concerned, 8 per cent are not very concerned, 1 per cent are not concerned at all, and 4 per cent are unsure.

The release adds that debt interest payments on this figure will cost taxpayers about one billion dollars this year, or $2.8 million per day. The CTF calls of the province to “listen to Saskatchewan taxpayers, rein in spending and start paying down the debt.”
