The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) has accepted a request to perform an external investigation of an incident early Monday morning on a First Nation near Loon Lake in the northwest part of the province.

Officers from the Loon Lake RCMP detachment responded to a 5am call about a drug-impaired person on a street at the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation.

While responding to that call, officers saw a man wanted on a warrant entering a residence on the same street. Two wanted men were arrested without incident. However, a 40-year old woman became confrontational and punched two officers. She was then arrested.

A video of the incident was shared online. The RCMP say an internal review of the RCMP body-worn camera video showed  reasonable force was used by officers. That evidence will be presented as part of court proceedings.

Rose Georgina Angus from Makwa Sahgiahecan First Nation is charged with two counts of assault and resisting a police officer and one count of possession of cocaine. The two officers involved in the incident will remain on duty while the SIRT investigation continues

The two men arrested are 30-year old Lane Anthony Purves of Edmonton who was wanted on warrant from Swift Current RCMP for charges, including theft. Twenty-eight year old Rayden Joe Kytwayhat from the Makaw Sahgiahecan First Nation was wanted on warrant from Loon Lake RCMP for charges including domestic violence.
