A long weekend of Saskatchewan RCMP check stops resulted in about two per cent of drivers tested had consumed alcohol or drugs before driving.

Combined resources from the Lumsden and neighbouring detachments as well as Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan Highway Patrol conducted three traffic safety check stops in the Regina Beach area between July 31 and August 2. From 950 mandatory alcohol screening tests and 25 drug screening tests – two drivers were impaired and charged under the Criminal Code, 10 drivers had consumed alcohol before driving and 11 drivers had consumed drugs before driving. All of the offenders received roadside suspensions. In addition, officers issued 20 traffic tickets, two Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act tickets and 36 written warnings.
