The Public Service Alliance of Canada says federal cuts to Canada’s public service are disproportionately impacting female workers.
PSAC’s latest data shows that women account for 71 per cent of PSAC members affected by workforce adjustment but only represent 57 per cent of federal public service workers.
Gender information was available for 77 per cent of the over 14,000 PSAC members who have received affected letters since January 2025. Among members who disclosed their gender, 71per cent of those who received workforce adjustment notices were women.
The union says some of the hardest hit departments with large percentages of women workers are Employment and Social Development Canada; Health Canada; Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada; and Global Affairs Canada.
PSAC says women in these departments provide critical direct support to people in Canada.
