The Water Security Agency is flood-mapping for 20 high-risk communities through the national Disaster Mitigation Program. It will be cost-shared by the province and the federal government on a 50-50 basis bringing in $1 million in funding. There is no cost to the communities identified as high risk. Saskatoon, Regina, Melfort, Moose Jaw, Weyburn, and Yorkton are the cities that have been ID’d as at-risk of suffering recurrent flood damage, along with 11 towns and three villages. The agency believes these communities would benefit from obtaining access to modern flood maps and hydraulic modelling.
