The provincial NDP says there are over 70,000 people who got their first shot to protect themselves against COVID-19, but haven’t had their second one yet. Leader of the Official Opposition, Ryan Meili, is calling on the Sask Party government to implement a second dose strategy to get these people fully vaccinated. Meili says if these people got their second doses, it would increase our overall double vaccination rate by 7 per cent. He suggests these people could be contacted to make appointments, similar to what was done with priority populations when vaccinations first began.
Health Critic Vicki Mowat says Saskatchewan leads the nation among provinces in new cases of the virus, while continuing to have the lowest rate of vaccination in the country. If everyone who had one shot got their second, it would mean 75 per cent of the eligible population would be fully vaccinated.
