Ahead of the truckers Freedom Convoy heading to Ottawa to protest vaccine mandates for cross-border drivers, Prime Minister Trudeau suggests that 90 per cent of Canadian drivers have already received their shots. He says the “small, fringe minority” of people on their way to Ottawa do not represent the views of Canadians who have been there for each other. He adds that disruptions to the global supply chain are due to the pandemic, and says, “The best way to prevent further disruptions is by making sure people don’t fall sick, by making sure people are vaccinated.”
Ottawa police estimate there could be up to 2,000 demonstrators, but this number is shifting quickly, and he warns local residents against travelling downtown during the event.
There is a Go Fund Me page to help truckers in the convoy out. The page says the donations will help with the cost of fuel and hopefully food and lodgings. As of Thursday morning, almost $6-million had been raised. Media reports note that a Go Fund Me page for the truckers will have the funds raised safely held until the organizer presents a withdrawal plan. (CJGX)
