Saskatoon and area is raising funds to help our sister city in Ukraine, Chernivtsi. Mayor Charlie Clark received an urgent request from Chernivtsi’s Mayor because that city is now caring for more than 150,000 displaced people. First responders have also requested assistance from Saskatoon’s firefighters, who are gathering emergency and medical supplies.
Community and business leaders from the Saskatoon area have organized a luncheon Wednesday at TCU Place, called “Unite for Ukraine” to help raise funds. You can buy tickets for the luncheon or donate at the website www.uniteforukraine.ca.
In 1991, Saskatoon and Chernivtsi became sister cities because the two communities shar so much in common. They are about the same size and are both hubs for education, arts, culture and commerce.
