No matter how much you want to be a “cool parent,” let’s be honest: There’s a VERY NARROW overlap between hobbies that are interesting to BOTH kids and adults. Or . . . is there?
In a recent survey, 61% of parents with preteens claim they’re “eager to learn more about their kids’ hobbies or interests.”
And 63% say they’re trying to teach their kids to appreciate hobbies they enjoy, with the hope that they might take to them too.
The ones mentioned in the survey are fairly kid-friendly already . . . like sports, video games, card games, and trivia, along with music and TV. It seems like the parents are trying to introduce their kids to hobbies and interests they had when they were younger . . . so they ARE trying to establish an overlap.
There was no mention of adults leaving their comfort zones to embrace REAL kids’ hobbies . . . like Minecraft, Roblox, and TikTok. Or kids embracing REAL adult hobbies . . . like bird-watching, home brewing, and watching HGTV.
