The Saskatoon Airport Authority is encouraging travellers to check in for their flights from home and confirm their latest flight details with their airline before going to the airport.
This as weather in other parts of Canada continues to affect arriving and departing flights from Saskatoon.
WestJet has proactively cancelled flights due to winter weather including in Vancouver and southern B.C. until the afternoon of December 23rd. They have done the same in Ontario for flights to and from Toronto, London, Ottawa, Waterloo and in Quebec until the end of today with a restart depending on weather conditions tomorrow.
The airline also says anyone who has confirmed travel between now and December 26th who would like to proactively cancel a flight only reservation, will receive a full refund to the original form of payment.
Air Canada has also issued an advisory indicating that customers can cancel flights online and receive a full refund or voucher on tickets purchased on or before December 21 for any flight between December 22 to 26. And there are further options for anyone who wants to make alternate travel arrangements due to weather events affecting Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa.
The public alert map for the country, from Environment Canada, is awash in a sea of red.
Red indicates a warning which for Saskatchewan, Alberta Manitoba, Northwest Territories and Yukon is extreme cold. That also applies to parts of British Columbia where there are additional warnings for winter storm and snowfall. Ontario and Quebec are inundated with winter storm warnings which are expected to escalate to a blizzard in some regions while in the Maritimes: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and PEI are all dealing with rainfall and wind warnings and in few locations, snowfall warnings.
