The Canada Revenue Agency says despite the general nationwide strike that has commenced, there are no plans to extend tax filing deadlines.

As well, the CRA will continue to accept all tax returns. They also say the vast majority of T1 and T2 returns, are filed digitally and will “largely be processed automatically by our systems without delay.”

The Public Service Alliance of Canada went on strike at 12:01 eastern and the union’s bargaining groups involve some 155-thousand federal workers, including 35-thousand at the Canada Revenue Agency.

The CRA says the offer they presented in the last two days of mediated negotiations includes a 9 per cent wage increase over three years which the agency says mirrors the recommendations of the third-party Public Interest Commission with the PSAC and Treasury Board Secretariat of Canada. CRA says the union countered with a proposal of 22.5 per cent over the course of three years, which includes a market adjustment of 2 per cent.
