Over 60 firearms were seized from a home in Veillardville ,which is about 150 kilometres east of Melfort. The Prince Albert Crime Reduction Team and the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant on Wednesday and seized 40 rifles, two handguns, about 20 firearms in various states of assembly, more than 10,000 rounds, powder and rifle casings used to reload shells, boxes of prohibited high capacity rifle magazines, two crates of illegal cigarettes, mint coins and gold jewelry investigators believe are stolen, and small amounts of cocaine and crystal methamphetamine as well as trafficking paraphernalia.
From this investigation, police say 56-year-old Steven Bondy from Hudson Bay is facing charges which include weapons trafficking, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of property obtained by crime and possession for the purpose of trafficking. Staff Sergeant Ryan How, north district manager of the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Saskatchewan Enforcement Response Team, says, “Dozens of firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition have been removed from the underground market, and potentially from getting into criminal hands throughout Saskatchewan.”
