Thursday afternoon the Muskoday Volunteer Fire Department received a 911 call regarding a grass fire on South Hill Road on the reserve. The information was shared on social media and the MVFD described the fire as very challenging and fast moving because of high winds.
They say a large team was needed to save the homes in the direct path of the fire. MVFD says the homes were saved but three sheds in two yards were lost. Muskoday First Nation is approximately 25 kilometres southeast of Prince Albert.
As of Friday evening there are nine wildfires burning in the province and four are not contained. There have been 130 grass fires so far this year while the five year average is 52.
The team who helped battle the fire included Birch Hills Fire & Rescue, Saskatchewan First Nation Emergency Management, Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, the Prince Albert Fire Department, Muskoday Security, RCMP and Garden River Fire & Emergency Services.
