Around midnight Thursday night,Saskatoon Police were told a vehicle had just been stolen from the 100 block of Sherry Crescent. A Staff Sergeant in an unmarked police vehicle observed the vehicle nearby, but police report that before the officer could activate the emergency equipment, the suspect sped toward the police vehicle in an attempt to ram it, but was unsuccessful.
The suspect was driving erratically trying to evade police and that’s when the police plane took over, letting officers on the ground know where the suspect was. Then, it’s alleged he unsuccessfully attempted to strike a Constable that was laying a tire deflation device before hitting a tree in the 300 block of Pendygrasse Road. He fled the scene, but a police service dog found him hiding nearby. He received injuries consistent with a dog bite.
The 25-year-old Saskatoon man is charged with vehicle theft, driving while prohibited, driving while being pursued by police, dangerous driving and two counts of assault with a weapon.
