Elections Canada is making it easy for all voters to cast their ballot this federal election, coming up on April 28th. Marie France-Kenny with Elections Canada says there are several ways to vote. “If you plan on voting by mail, you need to request your kit before April 22nd at 6:00 p.m. local time.” The kit can be picked up at any Elections Canada office or ordered online.
Voters can also hit the advanced polls on Easter long weekend. They’ll be open from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Those that are away from home at the time of the election won’t be left out. You can order a special ballot kit online, or pick one up from an Elections Canada office, but you must get the kit back to Elections Canada by end of polls on April 28th.
Those new to voting can register online, at any Elections Canada office, during advanced polls, or on polling day. When heading to the polls, you are asked to bring a valid driver’s license and voter information card, which should have showed up in the mail by Friday, April 11th. If not, you may not be registered to vote, or your registration may not be up to date. If you’d like to check your registration and update your address, you must do so by April 22nd at 6 p.m. using the Online Voter Registration Service or calling 1-800-463-6868.
If you need to update your voter information, including your name, you have to contact your local Elections Canada office by the same deadline, April 22, 6 p.m.
