The Saskatoon Police Service (S-P-S) says upwards of 10 bear spray incidents were reported between 4 p.m. on April 16 and 2:30 a.m. on April 17, including one incident in which a man was arrested.
The S-P-S news release says bear spray was discharged into a business in the 600 block of Idylwyld Drive North at around 8:30 p.m. on April 16. Upon arriving at the scene, officers were informed the suspect was in the parking lot outside the business attempting to fight with staff. Police arrested the 18-year-old suspect without further incident and was found to be in possession of bear spray. He was charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace and mischief under five thousand dollars. He was also found to be wanted on an outstanding warrant. As for other bear spray incidents during the time frame earlier noted, the suspects and victims were known to one another in some cases, but not in all incidents. No additional arrests have been made and police continue to investigate and respond to reports of bear spray in the community.
