Effective yesterday afternoon, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency revised the provincial fire ban to permit the use of All Terrain Vehicles and Utility Terrain Vehicles across the province, citing favorable weather conditions that have reduced the risk of fire starts from these vehicles.
Despite this change, the fire ban remains in effect, continuing to prohibit open fires, controlled burns, and fireworks north of the provincial forest boundary up to the Churchill River.
Currently, Saskatchewan is battling 19 active wildfires, with a total of 259 wildfires reported this year, significantly higher than the five-year average of 148.
SPSA urges ATV and UTV users to avoid active fire lines for safety and reminds the public to report wildfires by calling 1-800-667-9660.
