As of this school year, Grade 8 students from Saskatoon Public Schools have the opportunity to take a year of arts-based classes that will also include creative ways of learning regular class subjects. The program Creative Action is based out of North Park Wilson School. Principal Kristin Siba says it will include music, dance, drama and visual arts, but it’s also about exploring social justice issues and communicating them in a creative way. The class will build on the school’s established relationships with arts organizations in the city, including the Remai Modern, and there will be opportunities for the public to see what they have been learning throughout the year. Siba expects the Creative Action program will grow to include more students next year.
