The Saskatoon Police Service says it is not in a position to confirm the identity of the officer who resigned from their service this week. As well they are not able to provide comment on the video being asked about.
Nathan Lynchuk, in a video posted to social media, says he is now a former Saskatoon City Police officer after resigning because he wanted to stand up for something bigger, “And didn’t want to be punished for, at the end of the day, letting my kids play with other kids.”
Lynchuk says he hasn’t believed for some time in what other police forces are enforcing in the country. Adding he decided to attend the Children’s Freedom Rally April 24th because he wanted his family to have a normal day and have his kids go into a park and play and have a normal day with other kids.
Lynchuk says he was photographed at the Children’s Freedom Rally April 24th in Saskatoon. He says he was contacted by his superiors and told he would have to work in office, not on patrol, and that he would have to take a rapid test every day before work. Lynchuk says its disheartening to see a police service not serving the people but becoming a detriment to society itself.
The Saskatoon Police Service, in an emailed statement, says, “it is committed to upholding and enforcing the restrictions under the Public Safety Order in our community’s fight against COVID-19.”
