Fifty-two people are sharing a $1-million LOTTO MAX prize, making it the largest group to claim a single lottery prize in Western Canada.
The winning ticket came from the August 5th draw.
The group originally started with 40 people four years ago. It grew from there to include ”friends of friends”. The winners come from more than 30 communities in Saskatchewan and Manitoba—-with Langenburg, Grayson, Spy Hill, Churchbridge and Regina having multiple members. The big cheque was presented to group leader Ashley Sieben from Langenburg.
Each person will receive $19,230.76. There are many different plans for the money, including trips, debt payments and possibly a boat.
Western Canada Lottery recommends filling out a Group Buying Agreement to make the process easy. Here are some other tips when forming a lottery group:
- Decide how to deal with potential winnings. Before the draw, decide what dollar amount of prize winnings will be split amongst the group or used for future lottery ticket purchases.
- Appoint someone as the group’s trustee to coordinate collecting funds, buying tickets, tracking winnings, posting draw results, sharing exciting news, and distributing winnings.
- Record who is participating in each draw.
- Ensure all group members are at least 18 years old.
- Copy selections for all group participants. (Note that only an original lottery ticket can be used to claim a prize)
