Close to 600 families will be helped through Operation Santa’s holiday campaign.
One of the co-founders of the initiative, Gregg Bamford, explains that it began around 2009 when a group got together to adopt families in need and others joined in.
Families were referred by local organizations and hampers were made up, including toys for each child.
Then, COVID hit, and the campaign stopped, but now it’s back and it has expanded with 11 agencies referring 50 families each.
Now, it’s up to groups and individuals to help out.
You can donate cash, volunteer, sponsor a hamper or adopt a family.
Bamford explains when you adopt a family, you do the shopping for them, including the gifts for the kids.
Then Santa and an elf deliver the hampers to families in need.
The deadline to sign up to adopt or sponsor a family is December 12th.
