A man is being charged with five counts of attempted murder following a firearm incident on Muskoday First Nation.
On Thursday afternoon.at 4:55 p.m., Prince Albert RCMP responded to a call involving a firearm. Through investigation, they say they located a black Dodge Ram truck that was believed to be involved in the incident.
RCMP tried to arrest the suspects, however they say one of them discharged a firearm at the officers.
Officers did not return fire, and no one was hurt. Both the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team and Police Dog Services were engaged, and 28-year-old Jason Lafferty and 25-year-old Whitney McDonald were arrested.
Although a firearm was located in the vehicle, further investigation determined these suspects were not involved in the initial firearm call on Muskoday First Nation. The investigation into the initial call is ongoing.
Lafferty is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, and McDonald is scheduled to appear in court on March 20.
The 28-year-old was charged with:
” five counts, attempted murder with firearm, Section 239(a), Criminal Code;
” one count, unauthorized possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon or restricted weapon, Section 91(3), Criminal Code;
” one count, possession of restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammo without license/registration, Section 95(2), Criminal Code;
” one count, pointing a firearm, Section 87(2), Criminal Code;
” one count, careless use of a firearm, Section 86(1), Criminal Code;
” one count, possession of firearm/weapon/device/ammo in motor vehicle, Section 94(2), Criminal Code;
” one count, discharge firearm with intent, Section 244, Criminal Code;
” one count, discharge firearm while being reckless, Section 244.2(3), Criminal Code;
” one count, resists/obstruct peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code; and
” one count, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, Section 354(1)(a).
25-year-old Whitney McDonald was charged with one count, resist/obstruct peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code.
