Folks in Saskatoon are waking up to a mix of fog and wildfire smoke. There is an air quality advisory and heat warning in effect. Environment and Climate Change Canada says the combination of heat and very poor air quality in smoke will increase the risk to your health. On Sunday, there was an air quality value of 10-plus in Buffalo Narrows, Prince Albert and Saskatoon. Anything above 10 is considered very high risk.
Wildfire smoke is causing or expected to cause very poor air quality and reduced visibility. There are 105 wildfires burning in Saskatchewan this morning and 16 are NOT contained. There have been 406 so far this year while 274 is the five-year average.
A prolonged period of extreme heat has been occurring in Saskatchewan with daytime high temperatures reaching 32 degrees Celsius and above, and overnight lows near 16 degrees Celsius which is forecast to continue through till Thursday.
