The first budget for the new Saskatoon City Council includes a 4.96 per cent property tax increase, which is down from the project 5.2 per cent increase.
For homeowners whose property is valued at $344,000 that will mean an increase on your property tax bill of $9.14 a month.
A City of Saskatoon news release says the increase will help pay for crucial investments.
Mayor Cynthia Block says the budget invests in strong core services, new support for homelessness and community safety, and the snow and ice budget will help to meet the demands of a growing city.
Council voted to increase the snow and ice management program by an additional $500,00 bringing the total increase to $1.6 million.
Policing also received an additional $8.5 million, adding additional bylaw inspectors to address safety concerns.
The City says despite the property tax increase, Saskatoon has among the lowest municipal property tax levels for both residential and non-residential properties in Canada.
The 2024 tax increase announced last December was 6 per cent.
