It isn’t often that southern Saskatchewan receives between 10 and 20 millimetres of rain in December, but it happened this weekend.

Danielle Desjardins, Environment Canada Meteorologist, says the Alberta clipper made a path across North Battleford, Kindersley, Saskatoon, Regina and further southeast into Manitoba.

“There was more rainfall than expected with this system. The changeover to snow was a little bit delayed, so there was more rain recorded as opposed to now.”

She says only four centimetres of snow were reported in Saskatoon and Kindersley, and three cenitmetres in Meadow Lake. An outlier was recorded in Bredenbury, with 24.9 centimetres of snow.

Looking forward, she says the weather for Saskatoon will be a bit of a rollercoaster. Today and tomorrow, she expects temperatures to fall to the mid-minus twenties with winds gusting to 50km/hr.

Later in the week, it’s expected to warm back up. Saskatoon can hope to see temperatures between minus five and minus eight.
