The union representing 270 Saskatoon library workers has announced that is members have voted in favour of the tentative agreement offered by the Saskatoon Public Library. Spokesperson for CUPE 2669, Paige Yellowlees, says, “This new agreement is a step in the right direction to make libraries safe and welcoming environments for staff and members of the public.”
The contract also includes significant increases to circulation associate wages, bringing them close to compensation rates at Regina Public Library, improved protections against working alone, and establishing a joint safety advisory committee to study and recommend best health and safety practices on an ongoing basis.
On November 6th, the union provided the Saskatoon Public Library strike notice, which means the union can act after 48 hours afterwards. There were work stoppages on November 12th and November 19th.
