For the second day in a row Saskatoon has broken a 122-year-old weather record.  The mercury plummeted to -40.1 on Tuesday beating out the old record of -38.3 degrees Celsius set in 1903. Also for a second day running a Saskatchewan location was the coldest place in Canada.  Tuesday Last Mountain saw the temperature fall to -45.1 degrees Celsius.  This morning (Wednesday) the Meadow Lake airport is the coldest place in Canada at -41.7 degrees.

The vast majority of the province remains under an extreme cold warning.  Environment Canada says a prolonged extreme cold event continues over Saskatchewan, with the region experiencing extreme wind chill values of minus 40 or lower at times.  Temperatures will begin to moderate by Thursday with a significant warm-up expected starting Friday. Seventeen new weather records were set Tuesday.
