Warm weather in Saskatchewan often means the beginning of outdoor sports for local youth, but not every family can afford the registration fees that come along with that.
KidSport has a mission to change that.
Provincial Coordinator for KidSport Tammy Hoffart says May has been declared KidSport month in Saskatchewan, and several events are being held to raise both money and awareness in the upcoming weeks.
“In Regina and Saskatoon, we have our KidSport corporate challenges coming up. In Saskatoon, our corporate challenge Amazing Race takes place May 29th, which we are super excited for, and we encourage teams to sign up if they wish.”
There will also be the annual KidSport pancake breakfast returning in September.
She says in 2024, KidSport Saskatchewan helped over 5000 children access the sports they love though an investment of $1.4 million.
“Sport is so important, because we know sport is so much more than a game. Sport teaches so much more than how to shoot a puck or kick a ball. It teaches so many life lessons, and it helps to build kids’ confidence, as well as things like coping skills.”
Those who can’t make it out to a fundraising event but would still like to donate to their local chapter can do so online at kidsportcanada.ca.
