The Saskatoon Police Service says a man was threatening staff at a business in the 1600 block of 8th Street East with a bat that he stole from the business.
Police were called shortly before 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday and when officers arrived, they located a man a short distance away matching the suspect’s description, carrying the stolen baseball bat.
In a news release police say he waved the bat in a threatening manner when officers approached. Even after dropping the bat, police say he still refused to listen to police commands and resisted arrest. He was taken into custody after a brief struggle.
A 28-year-old man is charged with two counts each Assault with a Weapon and Utter Threats as well as Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, Theft, Mischief and Resisting Arrest.
In a separate case, the Saskatoon Police Service says a 19-year-old man has been charged in connection to a firearm incident Tuesday morning.
Around 5:30 a.m. officers responded to a report of a man seen pointing a firearm before fleeing into an apartment building in the 400 block of 4th Avenue North.
In a news release police say officers located a suspect in a suite, as well, they seized an imitation firearm and an expandable baton.
The suspect is charged with Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Prohibited Possession of Firearm, and breach of court-imposed conditions.
