Today, the Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC) celebrated the official launch of the Indigenous Workforce Program, which is one of several employment strategies within SRC’s wider Indigenous Action Plan. The summer student program, Kiskiyihta (Kiskee-ih-taah) is a Cree word that means “to learn or to know”.
Warren Kaeding is the Minister Responsible for SRC and says students will gain valuable experience in the summer student program. He mentions some of the areas the SRC is working with, is with two significant programs on the go: the Micro-Reactor Program and the Rare Element Extraction Program. He says, “Students can do all kinds of work with critical minerals, such as analysis, and determinations of what kind of critical minerals are out there, ultimately how to efficiently extract them. There are also opportunities working on the environmental aspect of all of it.”
Kaeding also says the SRC has been very active in the clean-up of our sites in northern Saskatchewan, as well as supporting all of our industries with critical minerals operating throughout our province, so it gives the students the opportunity to really see all the incredible work and opportunity, they may have in front of SRC.
